Another former Pettit Group Quantity Surveyor qualifies!

Written by Annie Lloyd

Former Pettit Group Trainee Quantity Surveyor- Nick Strange has successfully completed his post-graduate PGDip (Surv) study in Quantity Surveying at London South Bank University.

Nick Strange started work for Pettit Group in 2015, following graduation from Kent University with a Bsc in Anthropology. Initially, Nick sought advice from our recruitment services team, however it was soon apparent that he was a perfect candidate to fill the Trainee QS role working with our Managing Director- Simon Pettit on a number of Civil Engineering tenders and project cost reporting.

Nick’s attention to detail and enthusiasm in the six months that he worked for our Construction Management division, meant that our team assisted his enrolment onto the postgraduate Quantity Surveying course at London South Bank, which he was given day release to attend. Following an enquiry for Trainee Quantity Surveyors from one of the UK’s leading infrastructure contractors, Nick was sent for interview, which he sailed through having gained direct experience in utilities tenders and Cost & Value reporting in his time at Pettit’s.

Nick has attended London South Bank on day release for the past two years, working the remaining four days for the leading contractor progressing his lecture theory with direct project experience.

Simon Pettit, whom interviewed and employed Nick as a trainee commented: “Nick came visited our office in 2015 with a degree certificate he didn’t really know how to progress with. I was after some help with various projects we were working on at the time, so offered him a trial to work on some utilities commercial management. He was a natural, so we helped him progress and when the time was right lined him up for an assistant role with a leading contractor in utilities.

“Nick is one of the best trainees I have had the pleasure to work with and he will reach the very top level of Commercial Management for one of the industry heavyweights, perhaps the one he is currently employed by, he is a great talent and I am proud we’ve had a hand in his progress to date”

“I have attended meetings recently with local training institutions on behalf of Pettit Group to discuss possible upskill joint ventures, which will be looking to develop these anecdotal successes into a wider reaching offering as our industry is in dire need of new talent, not least in Kent”.

Nick Strange still has further hard work to complete alongside his Assistant Quantity Surveying role, having started his RICS APC in the second year of his course, however this is progressing well and will be looking to complete competencies and interview within the next two years.

We will track his progress over the coming years, as we feel this is a great example of where investment reaps reward for young prospects in Kent!

Well done Nick, from all of your old team at Pettit Group, keep on progressing…next stop RICS chartered status!!!

*We are looking for the next degree qualified trainee, based at our offices in Sandwich, Kent. Interviews will be held in January 2018, so please get in contact*
